Let Me Reintroduce Myself

Hey ya’ll! I’m Brittany.

I’m from Mississippi, but I’ve lived in Shanghai for 9ish years now. Mom of three. Teacher. Doula. Counseling grad student.

Also, it’s been almost two years since I last wrote here. Whoops. My bad, ya’ll.

Life with three kids overseas doesn’t leave much free time. Between teaching, grad school, and keeping small humans alive, blogging just… didn’t happen.

But I miss it. So I’m back.

What’s Changed

This blog used to be just about doula stuff: pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding. That’s still part of me.

But I’m also:

  • teacher in a school here in China
  • counseling grad student (because apparently I can’t pick one thing, I mean, that’s literally why I’m in this program)

The bonus? I’ll get another master’s degree out of it. So really, my indecision is just career planning.

So What Will I Write About?

A lot of things. I know that’s risky for a blog. Everyone says pick a niche.

But I’ve never been good at picking one thing.

So here’s what you’ll find:

  • Parenting (the messy, real version)
  • Life in China (travel, existing as an expat)
  • Teaching abroad (Black American teacher in a classroom abroad)
  • Counseling (what I’m learning that actually helps me parent and teach)
  • Pregnancy & birth (still in my bones)

Think of it less like a niche blog and more like sitting with a friend who has a lot going on.

Why I’m Back

I don’t have it all figured out. I’m just tired of waiting until I do.

If you’re a parent far from home, a teacher finding your way, a Black woman navigating spaces where you’re the only one, or just someone with too many interests and not enough time, welcome.

I’ll post weekly. Maybe every other week, depending on chaos levels. No more two-year gaps. Promise-ish.

Let’s see what happens when I stop trying to be one thing.

With honesty and a little humor,
Brittany
